Brian Gavin is a retired distribution manager with a life-long love of poetry, particularly the writings of Robert Frost, William Butler Yeats and Richard Wilbur.
Over the years, he grew in his appreciation of their use of powerful and haunting imagery, and eventually began to write his own verse in an experimental, haphazard sort of way. Then, upon his retirement a few years ago, he began to work at it more earnestly, and submitted some of his work to online journals.
Eventually, a collection began to take shape. ‘Burial Grounds’ is the result of that effort. It is his first collection. It can be purchased at (amazon link). A few selections from the book are included here.
With luck, another collection or two will take shape as the pieces pile up. But his larger ambition is to leave behind a few words that might be of interest to someone a few years down the road and might prove to be the proxy for a conversation he’d like to have with a great-great grandchild he’ll never meet.
Brian and Karen, his wife of 44 years, are the parents of three adult children and their spouses, and the grandparents of six. They live in Lakeport, Michigan.
